Aesop Double Edge Razor review

September 28, 2017

The Aesop Double Edge Razor is a must have for a luxurious shave. As we explore a lifestyle of zero waste living, we have been on the hunt for a double edge razor. We were annoyed of having to constantly returning to the supermarket to purchase disposable blades and having to find a place to store the new plastic blades if we bought it bulk to save money.

For this type of razor, when the blade becomes blunt, all you need to replace is the thin sliver of steel that sits inside the razor instead of throwing a disposable plastic refill blades.

Where is it made? What do you get in the box?

The razor is manufactured in England, handcrafted by an Englishman (so I’m told by the staff at the Strand Arcade Aesop Store). The stainless steel razor blades are manufactured in Germany called Merkur Solingen. You get 10 razor blades when you buy the razor as well as Moroccan Neroli Shaving Serum and Moroccan Neroli Post-shave lotion samples if you ask the staff nicely.

Pros

  1. Weight of the razor handle feels well proportioned. The high density handle features a hand-polished and triple-plaed collar. This gives the handle a weight that feels perfectly balanced when shaving.
  2. Looks and feels luxurious. As with the range of Aesop products, they have designed this traditional double edge razor blade in a contemporary way to suit any modern gentleman.
  3. Suitable for both new and experienced wet shavers. This means that you need to wet your skin first before you shave, it is easy enough that users new to double edge razors can use it and it’s on the high quality end that experienced wet shavers enjoy the razor.
  4. Women can use this blade too. Allow these double edge razor blades have been traditionally used by men, it doesn’t women can’t use them! I’ve tried them on my legs and underarms and they have produced excellently close shaves.

Cons

  1. Price: The Double Edge Razor costs $105AUD (includes 10 stainless steel blades) Additional blades costs $25 for Two ten-packs of double-edge Merkur Solingen razor blades made with German-made stainless steel. Each individually wrapped. There are other places that sell razor blades such as Woolworths, however, it’s $14 for 10 razors. So, I would probably just stick to the ones from Aesop.

2.  No protector cap. I’ve seen in on other double edge razor that have a plastic protector cap which is great for travelling so that you don’t cut anything or anyone on the move. We’ve decided to keep the box that the razor came in so that we have a place to put the razor when we are travelling.

Useful Tips

  1. Wet the skin area that you are shavng with warm water to soften.
  2. Lather the area using light circular motions to lift th hair shafts for a close shave.
  3. Short strokes work best.
  4. Rinse the blade after each stroke.
  5. Replacement every 3 to 7 shaves is recommended. But I’ve been using it for more than 7 shaved and it is great having the blade slightly blunt so there is less chance of a nick on the skin!

idk where your getting your blades but you can easily buy 100 blades for $15 online. They’re only that expensive in Woolworths to make the crazy plastic razors look reasonable priced
